There's something with age of the links in Google algorithms. Which basically mean when you get a backlink the older it gets, means the more time passes the better it's value. So in essence the older your website gets the better your backlinks become. Google will give them more value, you get more rewarded so to speak for those backlinks.
Doing link building from the start is how you get indexed rapidly. Most think of indexing a website as a stage in the process. I think it's not.
